I'd like to discuss something that's often overlooked, but is actually the key to a deep experience during a yoni massage: your breath.
Many women think a yoni massage is all about touch. But the reality is that conscious breathing can make your experience much more profound. Often, it can even be the key to moving from a more superficial to a complete, full-body energetic experience. Breathing is literally the bridge between your head, your body, and your energy.
When you're tense or nervous, you automatically breathe shallowly, high in your chest. Your body then goes into a kind of alert mode. This also causes your pelvic floor and your yoni to tense. And tension blocks energy.
When you breathe deeply into your belly, you signal to your nervous system: "It's safe, you can relax." And you immediately feel that relaxation in your pelvic floor, creating space for feeling, energy, and surrender.
You may have heard of breathwork sessions. These are intensive breathing techniques where you breathe very consciously and powerfully, sometimes for minutes at a time. This can be incredibly intense: emotions are released, energy can rush through your body with great intensity, and people sometimes describe almost trance-like experiences.
During a tantra massage, we usually don't want to push things that far. The emphasis is more on gentleness, flow, and surrender. It's not about forcing anything, but subtly creating space so energy can move naturally.
But also know: you are completely free to use your breathing as a tool in whatever way feels right for you. If you feel that more intense breathing helps you open more deeply, it can certainly be valuable. It's important that you always stay aware of what your body is telling you.
During a tantra massage, I view deep abdominal breathing as a kind of foundation. You breathe in gently into your lower abdomen, allowing your abdomen and pelvis to gently expand. As you exhale, release tension with a soft sigh. This simple pattern alone helps calm your nervous system and open your pelvic floor.
Once you're more familiar with these basics, you can also experiment with circular breathing. With this, your breath doesn't just move in and out, but flows like a flowing circle through your body. In tantra, this is sometimes compared to an energetic cycle—an idea that also appears in Daoism, where it's called the microcosmic orbit.
This introduces an extra powerful element that can elevate your experience to a higher level: visualization!

While breathing alone can bring relaxation and space, it becomes truly powerful when you add visualization. You then use your breath not only to draw in oxygen, but also to consciously direct energy.
I just mentioned the microcosmic orbit from Daoism. With each inhalation, you imagine drawing energy from your pelvis up your spine to the crown of your head. As you exhale, you allow that energy to flow back down through the front of your body, towards your heart, abdomen, and yoni.
In tantra, we call this sublimation: lifting the sexual energy from the lower chakras to the higher centers, so that it becomes tangible not only physically but also emotionally and spiritually.
As a giver, I also work with my breath, visualization, and intention to guide the energy. In this way, I can help this energy flow through the receiver's body.
When sexual energy begins to disperse, the entire experience changes. Instead of the sensation remaining solely in the yoni, it can feel like a wave or a gentle current flowing through your entire body. Some women experience it as tingling or shivers, as if their skin starts to vibrate slightly from within. Others describe it as warmth spreading upward, or as a pulsating sensation that moves up and down with the breath.
This energy can sometimes also accumulate in certain places. Very often, this happens in the hands. Then your fingers can suddenly stiffen, curl, or tremble—what we playfully call "crab legs" in tantra. It may look strange, but it's completely normal. It's simply a sign that a lot of energy is temporarily flowing through your system and that your body is still learning how to handle that wave.
And it doesn't always have to be intense: for some women, it remains subtle, like a soft glow or a sense of spaciousness in the heart and mind. Whatever you experience, they are all expressions of the same life energy that is no longer trapped in your pelvis, but can circulate freely throughout your entire being.
Would you like to try this yourself?
"Energy flows where the mind goes" is a saying that is very applicable here. In other words: where you bring your attention, your energy follows. I sometimes use this very practically myself, for example, in the winter when my feet are cold. Then I direct my awareness step by step to my feet, while continuing to breathe calmly. I then notice that more heat naturally flows to that area, as if my body is starting to warm up from within. It's a very simple example, but it shows how powerful the combination of breathing and focus can be. And you can apply exactly that principle during a tantra massage.
Breathing isn't just about taking in oxygen. It's a key to relaxation, to opening your yoni, and to allowing sexual energy to flow throughout your body. Combined with visualization, this can become a profound and even transformative experience.
How do you experience breathing in your daily life – do you notice a difference when you consciously focus on it?
